Last week it was rumoured that Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nebula would be making an appearance in 2018’s Marvel epic Avengers: Infinity War, and now actress Karen Gillan has confirmed her inclusion in the superhero ensemble and its as-yet-untitled sequel.
“I’ll be making a little appearance in the next Avengers movies,” said Gillan in an interview with the BBC. The news will come as little surprise, given that the Guardians of the Galaxy are already confirmed for Infinity War (and judging by the promotional material for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Nebula appears to be a new recruit on the team), while Nebula is the adopted daughter of the film’s major antagonist Thanos.
The character also plays a rather crucial role in The Infinity Gauntlet story arc, although it remains to be seen whether that aspect will remain a part of the big screen adaptation.
Before she links up with The Avengers, Gillan is currently in Scotland shooting her directorial debut Tupperware Party, which is being produced by Mt Hollywood, a new film company with a focus on working with females and minorities.
“I have such an amazing team to collaborate with,” said Gillan on the film. “We have such a strong team of females on this project. We didn’t choose anyone because they were female. To me gender is irrelevant and it is whoever is best for the job.”
We’ll be seeing plenty of Gillan on the big screen this year, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Jumanji, The Circle and All Creatures Here Below all set for release.
