As Marvel Studios gears up to launch Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this month’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the concluding chapter of Phase Four his Disney+ this past week, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever setting records for the streamer.
The Ryan Coogler-directed film, which is also fresh off its five Academy Award nominations (including Best Supporting Actress for Angela Bassett), became Marvel Studios’ most watched film premiere on Disney+, based on hours streamed globally in its first five days.
The news comes direct from Disney, who doesn’t provide any specifics on said viewing figures. However, its interesting to note that as well as being the most-watched debut, Wakanda Forever also has the longest theatrical-to-streaming window of any of Marvel’s films since the launch of Disney+ at 82 days. That’s almost double the 47-day window for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness., and something perhaps that Disney and Marvel may take into account for future theatrical releases?
