Deadline is reporting that Daisy Ridley is teaming with Amazon Studios and writer-producer Raelle Tucker (True Blood) for an adaptation of Tanen Jones’ debut novel The Better Liar.
Star Wars actress Ridley will executive produce the adaptation, as well as headlining the series which follows a woman who hires a lookalike in an effort to conceal her sister’s death and claim their shared inheritance, only for her deception exposes a web of dangerous secrets.
The Better Liar will mark the first major TV role for Ridley, who has several films awaiting release following her last feature outing in 2021’s Chaos Walking. The romantic dramedy Sometimes I Think About Dying premiered at Sundance this year [read our review here], while Young Woman and the Sea and The Marsh King’s Daughter are both expected to arrive in 2023, along with animated film The Inventor.
The series is being produced as part of Raelle Tucker’s overall deal at Amazon Studios, where she currently serves as showrunner on the upcoming thriller series The Power. Along with True Blood, Tucker’s past TV credits include Supernatural, The Returned, Jessica Jones and Sacred Lies.
