Nickelodeon to revive Hey Arnold! for a TV movie

November 23, 2015 by Justin Cook

It looks like everybody’s favorite fourth grader with a football-shaped head will soon be making his return to the small screen, as a recent report from Variety confirms that a Hey Arnold! TV movie is in the works at Nickelodeon. Details on the project are fairly scarce at the moment, but the movie will pick up right where the show left off and resolve unanswered questions, specifically what happened to Arnold’s missing parents.

The animated show, which ran from 1996 to 2004 and aired around 100 episodes, focused on Arnold, a boy who lives with his grandparents in the city, and his everyday life with his friends and neighbors.

Fans of the show will remember Arnold’s first movie, 2002’s Hey Arnold! The Movie, which was released into theaters and grossed over $15 million on a $3–4 million budget.

Not too long ago Nickelodeon announced that they’d be reviving a few classic shows that once aired on the network for modern audiences, and it seems that Hey Arnold! is one of the first shows to get this treatment, although no release date is set as of now.

On making a Hey Arnold! TV movie for Nickelodeon’s current audience, Russell Hicks, the network’s content development and production president, said, “Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves. Our library has come to fruition and it’s time for it to start coming back to life. You have to remember people who are going to watch really don’t have a recollection of Hey Arnold. You have to make it relevant to them but also nod to the audience that is going to be interested.”
