For the past couple of years, we’ve been hearing lots about development on Top Gun 2, the planned follow-up to the late director Tony Scott’s 1986 blockbuster, and now it seems the project is finally starting to come together.
According to Val Kilmer on Facebook, he’s been offered a role in the film – presumably returning as Iceman – and has accepted, stating that it’s “not often you get to say yes without reading the script.”

Tom Cruise has previously stated that he’s open for a return as Maverick, on the condition that practical effects are used for the jet sequences, as opposed to CGI.
Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce Top Gun 2 alongside David Ellison, while Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, The Jungle Book) is the latest writer to take a crack at the script.
