Anthony Mackie to play Johnnie Cochran in Signal Hill movie

May 4, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Captain America: Civil War star has signed on to portray lawyer Johnnie Cochran in an as-yet-untitled legal drama based around the 1981 Signal Hill police brutality case, which has been scripted by David McMillan (Lucifer).

Variety reports that the film will follow Cochran “as he takes on a police brutality case in 1981 in which a young college student died under suspicious circumstances in police custody. Cochran persuaded the family to do an autopsy after suspecting foul play, leading to one of the more highly publicized cases involving police brutality.”

Cochran was recently portrayed on the small screen by Courtney B. Vance in the FX series The People V O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

Mackie can currently be seen as Sam Wilson / Falcon in Captain America: Civil War, and will also appear as Martin Luther King, Jr. alongside Bryan Cranston’s President Lyndon B. Johnson in the TV movie All the Way, which premieres on HBO on May 21st.
