The world was pretty excited when Neill Blomkamp released his concept for an Alien sequel, and things seemed to be going pretty well, looking like it would be worked on alongside Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel. But this has all seemed to have fallen apart and now Blomkamp doesn’t see much chance of the sequel going forward at all.
The Prometheus sequel, now renamed to Alien: Covenant – which probably wasn’t a good omen for Blomkamp – is due for release this May. And as for Blomkamp’s Alien sequel, the director had the below to say in a Twitter reply to a fan.

This isn’t entirely shocking, with the Prometheus sequel being renamed and looking to more closely resemble Scott’s original film, along with returning Xenomorphs, perhaps there just isn’t room for Blomkamp’s vision.
The fat lady hasn’t quite sung yet however, so we can’t call this one over just now. The Alien franchise doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon and so there will surely be future opportunities for Blomkamp’s proposed film to be made.
