Joe Carnahan is a busy man at the moment. He’s writing Shawn Levy’s Uncharted movie, prepping his next directorial effort Bad Boys for Life, and recently announced a remake of The Raid with Frank Grillo.
Well, we can now add another project to his slate, as Collider is reporting that Carnahan is currently scripting an X-Force adaptation for 20th Century Fox. The site states that at present, he is only contracted for the screenplay, but could potentially direct should Fox like his script.
UPDATE: According to Comic Book, Carnahan is actually set to direct X-Force, and is co-writing the script with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.
Fox was developing an X-Force movie a few years back, with Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) writing, but the potential X-Men spinoff was put on hold once the studio decided to move forward with Deadpool.
X-Force revolves around a team of mutants who adopt a more militant approach to that of the X-Men. In the comic books, the team has had a revolving roster of members, including Deadpool, Cable and Domino. The latter two are set to be introduced in Deadpool 2, so it would make sense that Fox is once again looking towards the team movie to follow the Merc with a Mouth’s solo sequel.
Along with X-Force and Deadpool 2, Fox has X-Men: The New Mutants set to go into production in May, while the next instalment of the main franchise – thought to be titled X-Men: Supernova – is also due to shoot in the summer. There’s also the Channing Tatum-headlined Gambit, but I think we all know that’s probably never going to see the light of day…
