After finally acquiring his much desired and long time coming Academy Award for 2015’s The Revenant, iconic actor Leonardo DiCaprio is now looking to the future after being cast in The Black Hand, as revealed by Variety.
A Paramount production, The Black Hand is a part of DiCaprio’s first-look deal with the studio and will be an adaptation of Stephan Talty’s book of the same name.
The story is based on true events and focuses on the origins of the Mafia in America. DiCaprio will star as Joe Petrosino, known as the ‘Italian Sherlock Holmes’, who is a NYPD cop tasked with taking on the mob in the early 1900s.
The mob migrated to America from Italy and were detested by the good, honest, law abiding citizens who helped out Petrosino with his mission.
DiCaprio will also produce the picture along with Nathaniel Posey of Appian Way Productions. There is no news of a director for The Black Hand at this time.
