Well, here’s some disappointing news for fans of Step Brothers, as Will Ferrell has seemingly closed the door on the long-rumoured sequel to the beloved 2008 comedy.
“You have to resist the temptation,” Ferrell tells Rolling Stone. “It’s just tough because the things everyone wants you to do sequels of are special because there’s not a sequel of it. I guess we’ll see, but as of now there are no plans. We just don’t want to be doing sequels of everything. I think we personally feel great about what we did with Anchorman 2, and I think there are actually some people who like it more than the original. But then you always get that little bit of people saying, ‘Awww, why’d they have to do that?'”
Step Brothers 2 seems to have been on and off over the years, with director Adam McKay revealing back in 2014 that a story and outline existed, although he intended on focussing on other projects for the time being.
While Step Brothers 2 appears to be off the cards, Ferrell and co-star John C. Reilly will be reunited next year with the release of Holmes and Watson, which is due to open in August 2018.
