With Marvel and Fox teaming up to explore the X-Men franchise on the small screen with Legion and the as-yet-untitled pilot from Bryan Singer, it looks like the mutant superheroes could be set for a return to the world of animation.
According to Bleeding Cool, an announcement will be made later this year regarding a new X-Men animated series, which follows the “ceasefire” between Marvel and Fox that had seen the X-Men and Fantastic Four pushed out of the limelight in Marvel’s comic books and various promotional and licensing deals.
Although characters have popped up sporadically in other Marvel cartoons, we haven’t had an actual X-Men animated series since 2009’s Wolverine and the X-Men, which was sadly (or rather criminally) cancelled after just one season following Disney’s purchase of Marvel.
