Universal Pictures is looking to snap up the sci-fi spec script Space Race from writer Daniel Kunka (12 Rounds), which has 10 Cloverfield Lane helmer Dan Trachtenberg attached to direct.
Plot details for Space Race are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports that it is being described as “a high concept with four-quadrant tentpole potential.” It will mark the second collaboration between Trachtenberg and Kunka, who also collaborated on the as-yet-unrealised time travel heist movie Crime of the Century, which was announced by Universal back in 2014.
Trachtenberg directed a number of commercials and shorts throughout the 2000s, before releasing the hit video game adaptation short film Portal: No Escape in 2011, which led to him signing on for Bad Robot’s Valencia, which was subsequently revealed as 10 Cloverfield Lane. He also helmed the recent Black Mirror episode ‘Playtest’ and is attached to direct the Harry Houdini biopic The Secret Life of Houdini.
