Vin Diesel may have reportedly had the post credit scene removed from The Fate of the Furious that would have set the stage for the project, but it seems that hasn’t deterred Universal from pressing ahead with its plans for a Fast & Furious spinoff focussing on Dwayne Johnson’s Agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.
According to Deadline, development is now underway on the spinoff, which is said to be in its early stages and see Fast & Furious chief writer Chris Morgan penning the script. The site reports that “the idea is for Johnson’s U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs to form an unlikely alliance with Statham’s Decker Shaw for a movie that conceivably could be made while they are figuring the next Fast film.”
The most recent entry in the franchise, The Fate of the Furious, has been a huge hit at the box office, pulling in $685 million worldwide as it heads into its second weekend. Universal already has Fast & Furious 9 set for April 19th 2019, followed by Fast & Furious 10 on April 2nd 2021.
