I’m a big fan of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Defenders, so when I saw a two-fer with this free comic, I knew I had to read it. The main story was well drawn and enough of a tease to make me interested in where the story goes from here. I’m a bit jaded by the movies, so I always envision the characters as the ones from the silver screen and when comic books don’t look like them it’s a bit disappointing, but the fact of the matter is that the Guardians of the Galaxy started as a comic book, so I can give it a pass.
I enjoyed The Defenders story even more than the main story for this comic book. Having just seen the trailer for The Defenders television show premiering on Netflix, I was already pumped up for this title. I love all of these characters and still have Daredevil comic books from thirty years ago in a comic book rack at home. I love seeing how all these characters interact with each other and the plot-line that draws them together. The illustrations and coloring on this story are fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. My favourite part was seeing Iron Fist and Daredevil in their classic costumes. The television shows all took a lot of liberties with the costumes (Daredevil has a different suit and both Iron Fist and Luke Cage never suited up in their classic comic book attire). If you’re a big Marvel fan, then you’ll enjoy this double-header.
Guardians of the Galaxy FCBD 2017 is available in comic book shops on May 6th for free.
