While out and about on the promotional tour this upcoming weekend’s blockbuster release, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword [read our review here], director Guy Ritchie was also asked for some information regarding his follow-up project, the live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic Aladdin.
Specifically, Ritchie was asked by Nerdist if the live-action version would still be a musical, to which he replied: “It’d be tough not to make [Aladdin] a musical… I’ve really just immersed myself into that project. So I’m still looking for cast members, we still haven’t found exactly which direction we’re going in. I’m confident that at some stage it will reveal itself to me, but right now it’s just a bit too premature.”
Ritchie was also asked by E!News about the rumours linking Will Smith to the role of Genie, responding that: “I can’t give you any updates. I mean, I like Will Smith very much. It would make me very happy to be making it with him, but the whole thing is very exciting. I’m looking forward to it.”
If Aladdin is anything like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and various other Guy Ritchie films, there’s no telling what the finished project will be like. However, with filming set to get underway in July, let’s hope the direction does quickly reveal itself to Ritchie…
