Last week it was announced that the fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be held back until midseason by ABC, with the network airing its new show Inhumans from September.
That raised several questions, such as whether we’d be getting a shortened run of episodes with Coulson and company for the fifth season. Well, as it turns out, we can expect a full run of 22 episodes, and – in news that is sure to please fans (and those involved with the show) – there won’t be any lengthy and random breaks in between episodes.
Posting on Twitter (although his tweets have since been deleted), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. visual effects supervisor Mark Kolpak stated that: “We’re back in January 2018. I believe [we] will have a straight run of 22 eps. No breaks!”
22 episodes would take Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. through to June 1st, which is past the end of the traditional spring TV season, although it is of course possible that we could get a couple of double-bill episodes, perhaps for the season premiere and finale.
