Sausage Party director developing The Jetsons animated movie

May 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Warner Bros. has tapped Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Sausage Party) to develop its animated big screen take on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Jetsons.

Spurred on by the success of The Flintstones, The Jetsons followed the misadventures of the space age family led by father George, along with wife Jane, children Judy and Elroy, household robot Rosie and family dog Astro. It ran on ABC between 1962 and 1963, with an animated feature Jetsons: The Movie released in 1990.

Several studios have tried to launch a live-action take on The Jetsons, with the rights passing between Paramount, Universal and current holders Warner Bros., with directors such as Adam Shankman and Robert Rodriguez attached at various points.

This latest animated adaptation was first announced back in January of 2015, when Warner Bros. hired Matt Lieberman (Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief) to pen a screenplay.
