THR is reporting that Alice Braga (Queen of the South) has signed on to the cast of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: The New Mutants, where she will portray the character of Dr. Cecilia Reyes. Braga will replace The Defenders star Rosario Dawson, who has left the project for unspecified reasons.
Based on the Marvel comic book series, X-Men: The New Mutants is being directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), who has described the spinoff as “a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe”.
The official synopsis reads: “Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”
X-Men: The New Mutants is being directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), while the cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
