How director James Wan persuaded Nicole Kidman to join the Aquaman movie

June 1, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Aquaman boasts a truly impressive cast. That can’t be denied. So, how did Warner Bros. get such a long list of big names to join a movie about a superhero that has not been tested on the big screen before?

Nicole Kidman, who plays Atlanna in the upcoming DC Extended Universe movie, has revealed to Deadline the magic words that director James Wan spoke to spark her interest:

“When he said ‘female warrior from the sea’ who wears mother of pearl, I went ‘Yes. Female warrior from the sea. Me like.'”

Well… not all casting has to be a grand negotiation. Likely, many actors were attracted to the undersea nature of the movie, as it is something that has not yet been done with comic books on the big screen.

Aquaman is being directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk and Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry. It is set for release on December 21st 2018.
