Kevin Feige isn’t ruling out R-rated MCU movies

June 14, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Up until now all MCU blockbusters have been PG-13, and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. However with the box office successes of Deadpool and Logan, some wondered if Marvel Studios would also go down the R-rated route, which Kevin Feige shot down back in April. “My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating; it’s the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed, that should be the takeaway for everyone.”

However in a Facebook Live interview, Feige has re-addressed his position on R-rated movies, saying they could happen down the line.

“[We’re] not currently planning [R-rated movies], no, but it’s not out of the question,” he said. “When I started at Marvel 17 years ago, the Blade franchise was doing very well. A lot of people didn’t even know it was based on a Marvel character, because at the time, they sort of hid the fact that it was a Marvel character. So, not out of the question, but not something we’re working on right now.”

Both Logan and Deadpool were huge box office successes, and Sony have taken a leaf out of their playbook by announcing an R-rated Venom movie with Tom Hardy.

Would you like to see an R-rated MCU movie, and if so, with which character(s)? Let us know in the comments below…
