Having found a director and star last month in Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), it seems that Sony is moving full steam ahead with its Spider-Verse launching Venom solo movie.
According to Omega Underground, production on the solo film is set to get underway on September 1st, and will shoot in Atlanta and New York City. The latter is of course home to Spider-Man, although given that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has confirmed this week that the movie will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it remains to be seen whether Spider-Man will be referenced in the film, or if they’ll be altering the origin of Eddie Brock.
Venom is set for release on October 5th 2018 and is the first of Sony’s planned Spider-Man spinoffs. The second, titled Silver & Black, will focus on the characters of Silver Sable and the Black Cat.
