According to The Tracking Board, Anne Hathaway is in talks with Sony for the lead in Barbie, the upcoming live-action movie based upon Mattel’s iconic toy line, which also reportedly has Alethea Jones (Fun Mom Dinner) in negotiations to direct.
A deal is yet to be finalised, but should Hathaway sign on she would replace Amy Schumer, who was previously attached to star before dropping out of the project due to scheduling issues. Hathaway’s schedule may also prove tricky for Sony, with the Oscar-winner having recently signed on for the sci-fi O2, and Barbie having a release date set for June 29th 2018.
Barbie is described as a “fish out of water comedy” where a misfit Barbie is kicked out of Barbieland, home to all the various incarnations of Barbie from its 57-year-history. She then sets off on an adventure in the real world where she comes to realise that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself.
