After several years in development (and seemingly in limbo), Todd McFarlane’s Spawn reboot has found a home, with McFarlane announcing that he’s teaming with Blumhouse Productions to bring his character back to the big screen.
“We’ve gone from the theoretical, we’re making movies,” McFarlane said. “Jasom Blumhouse. Spawn. Badass. R. It’s coming. Get ready for it, we’re going into production. No more talking, it’s time to do.”
“Having worked with many visionary directors, I think Todd’s unique artistic talents will only add to his role as director of this film,” added Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum.
Earlier this month, McFarlane had spoken about his difficulty in turning the project into a reality, owing to the fact that he was not willing to give up creative control and was adamant that he’d be directing, despite having no previous experience.
He has also recently described his vision as “dark R”, and that: “If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here. It’s going to be dark. It’s going to be nasty.”
