Having officially been announced at the San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. has now set a December 13th 2019 release date for Wonder Woman 2.
The film will see the return of Gal Gadot as the Amazon Princess, and Patty Jenkins is expected to be back in the director’s chair, although her involvement is yet to be confirmed. DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns is working on the screenplay for the sequel to this year’s DC blockbuster, which has grossed over $780 million worldwide since its release in June.
Although details on Wonder Woman 2 are scarce, it has been rumoured that the film will be set during the Cold War, and could potentially see the return of Chris Pine.
Wonder Woman 2 was one of several DC movies announced at Comic-Con alongside Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Justice League Dark, Flashpoint, Green Lantern Corps and Batgirl. Shazam will reportedly be the next DC movie to go into production.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
