Well, it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t wasted any time in finding a replacement for Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars: Episode IX, with Deadline reporting that J.J. Abrams is set to direct the final chapter of the Sequel Trilogy, as well as co-writing with Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens helmer Abrams was revealed to be a contender for the job when it was first announced that Trevorrow had exited the project, as was Rian Johnson, director of December’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. However, Johnson subsequently distanced himself from the film, stating that he was solely focussed on Episode VIII.
Jurassic World helmer Trevorrow was removed from the film due to “creative differences”, with rumours then suggesting Lucasfilm found him “unbearable” and “difficult”.
