Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West reportedly absent from Justice League test screening

September 21, 2017 by Jordan Jones

A select few have recently been shown an early test screening of the upcoming Justice League film. While the audience has been sworn to secrecy, it has been let slip that at least one audience member (allegedly) called the movie: “fine”. Take that how you will.

However, that’s not why we are here. There’s another interesting piece of news that has leaked since footage was screened: apparently we have confirmation on the rumour that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has been cut from the film entirely. As reported by Batman-News over on their Twitter page today:

Batman News can confirm that the current cut of #JusticeLeague does NOT include Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor scenes pic.twitter.com/MvEp8O0EIt

If true, this isn’t terribly surprising. Many fans were lukewarm over Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex, and Warner Bros. is clearly in damage control mode with its DC Extended Universe. Putting Joss Whedon aboard to work on the connective tissue of Justice League, lighten the tone, and overall improve on the film very well could have resulted in Lex Luthor being left on the cutting-room floor.

UPDATE: According to Batman-News, Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West has also been cut from the film, prompting some speculation as to whether she’ll still be portraying the character in The Flash’s solo movie Flashpoint.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K.
