Back in November of 2016 it was announced that Jessica Chastain had signed on to produce and star in an adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada’s Painkiller Jane comic book series, and now the project has found its screenwriter.
Deadline is reporting that Christine Boylan (Castle, Once Upon a Time) has signed on to pen the script for the film, which will see Chastain as Jane Vasko and NYC cop recruited into the FBI to infiltrate the city’s drug and human trafficking ring. After being set-up by a mob boss, Jane is almost killed but somehow gains regenerative abilities that heal her wounds in a matter of seconds, and sets out on a quest for vengeance and justice against those who wronged her.
Boylan does have previous experience with comic book adaptations, having written and co-executive produced episodes of NBC’s short-lived DC/Vertigo series Constantine.
