Sabrina the Teenage Witch heads to The CW for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

September 20, 2017 by Gary Collinson

The classic comic book character Sabrina the Teenage Witch is set for a returning to the small screen, with Archie announcing the upcoming launch of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is being eyed to debut on The CW in the 2018-19 TV season as a companion show to Riverdale.

The new show will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer and Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, directed by Lee Toland Krieger, and produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Brothers Studios.

Drawing from the critically acclaimed Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic book series, the show will detail the compelling and shocking re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s occult origins. It is described as a dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.

In addition to several animated series, the character of Sabrina was portrayed in live-action by Melissa Joan Hart in the 90s series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The character was also lined up to make her debut in Riverdale in the season one finale, although those plans were put on hold.
