Deadline is reporting that blockbuster movie franchise Bad Boys will spinoff to the small screen, starring Gabrielle Union as Syd, her character from the 2003 sequel.
The spinoff show is being written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, and is being pitched to major TV networks by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad through his 2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment. Sony Pictures TV Studios, whose movie offshoot is behind the feature franchise, is the studio.
In Bad Boys 2 Union played an undercover DEA agent who was the sister of Martin Lawrence’s Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett, as well as the romantic interest of Will Smith’s Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey. Considering how long it has taken to tie the actors down to the long gestating Bad Boys 3, or Bad Boys for Life as it became known, it’s highly unlikely the headline duo will have any involvement in the show.

We could see this sooner rather than later given the news that Union’s current show Being Mary Jane will end its run next year, meaning Bad Boys will join the likes of Lethal Weapon, Westworld, and Fargo, as big screen properties transitioning into our front rooms.
