The Avengers: Infinity War trailer apparently had Kevin Smith “bawling with joy”

November 30, 2017 by Jordan Jones

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer has dropped, and the reception has been (almost) uniformly positive. Sure, there are some criticisms of Thanos’ lack of armor, and a few other nitpicks, but overall it’s impossible to deny the joy felt at seeing all of these established characters fighting together for the very first time.

One person who really liked the trailer is Kevin Smith. Smith tends to have a pretty open mind when it comes to comic book films, but Avengers: Infinity War footage, in particular, left the director/writer/podcaster a complete mess:

Yes, I cry at everything. But this? This has me bawling with joy. It truly lives up to the word @Marvel! Look at that clusterfuck of heroes! Take every penny of my money! https://t.co/QfmJ8Rm98M

— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) November 29, 2017

The trailer definitely lives up to the Marvel Comics name. Where Civil War felt a bit under-staffed, this film looks to be massive in scope, and packed to the brim with characters old, and new. If Marvel can manage to balance all of these characters in a 2+ hour film, without it feeling overstuffed, that accomplishment alone will be worthy of some happy tears.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
