Luther season 5 to begin filming in January

December 7, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The fifth season of Luther is set to begin filming in January 2018.

The much loved British crime series is known for its hard hitting drama and being the vehicle through which many were properly introduced to Idris Elba. The series has currently four seasons under its belt, debuting back in 2010.

Creator and writer of Luther, Neil Cross, had confirmed that season 5 was in the works earlier this year, and now, in an interview with Deadline, Cross has revealed that the new season will begin filming in January of 2018.

“I delivered the final episode of Luther series five about an hour before leaving for the airport [to head to London for the Hard Sun premiere]. We’re in prep right now and we’re doing a bit of casting and we start shooting in January. For some reason, I always seem to shoot in the depths of winter.”

Cross also touched on ending the series with a Luther film and how different, if at all, it might be from the show.

“It’s always going to be slightly different because of how long you have to tell a story. Ultimately, whatever Luther story you tell, in whatever medium, has to focus on that character so in some ways it will be exactly the same because it will be about him.”
