Stephen Lang, returning for Avatar 2, has called the film “Avatar on steroids”.
It continues to be a long wait for the sequel to one of the most successful movies in history. James Cameron’s Avatar broke the box office upon release in 2009 and sequels have been promised ever since.
We are now getting a multitude of new Avatar films and actor Stephen Lang, who plays Miles Quaritch, has told Screen Rant what people can expect from the sequel.
When asked about the ways in which Cameron is using new technology in the film, Lang highlighted the movie’s underwater nature:
“I mean, look it’s no secret that we’re doing a lot of underwater motion capture, which, in itself is groundbreaking, it just hasn’t been done.
“There’s something about the world being undersea. That is extremely beautiful, fascinating, challenging to him. So, you know, there’s sections that take place. . . so, that in itself is a big deal. But just, what are we, three months into shooting now, it’s like nothing I’ve done before.
“It’s in many ways reminiscent of Avatar, but it’s kind of Avatar on steroids.”
The underwater component is certainly an interesting one and will set it apart at least visually from the first film. While some may be dismissive of the long awaited sequel, it’s never a good idea to underestimate James Cameron. Lang’s comments here certainly align with such thinking.
