Cloverfield sequel God Particle could go to Netflix, new title possibly revealed

January 24, 2018 by Tom Beasley

The frequently delayed Cloverfield sequel God Particle looks like it might be the latest film on the Paramount slate to head across to Netflix.

Paramount was due to release God Particle on April 20th, but it now looks as if the release date will shift again, particularly if the Netflix deal does go ahead.

The online streaming platform recently picked up all of the international rights, including in the UK, for Alex Garland’s sci-fi film Annihilation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, incoming Paramount exec Jim Gianopulos has overseen something of a cull of recent releases, making decisions as to “what is theatrical [and] what is not in this day and age”.

There is speculation that producer J.J. Abrams’s unexpected role at the helm of the ninth Star Wars movie may have moved him away from working on the Cloverfield franchise.

God Particle is more expensive than the other Cloverfield films, with a reported budget of $40m compared to the $25m cost of the original found footage movie and the apparently lower budget of stealth sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane.

The film also boasts a higher profile cast, including David Oyelowo (Selma), Daniel Bruhl (Rush), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Black Mirror) and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

Meanwhile, if rumours are to be believed, it seems that the film may be going by the title Cloverfield Station, with the websites CloverfieldStation.com and CloverfieldStationmovie.com and associated Facebook and Twitter pages springing up over the past few days.
