Heyday Films and StudioCanal are teaming up for a new adaptation of Frances Hogson Burnett’s classic 1911 book The Secret Garden, which has Marc Munden (National Treasure, Utopia) set to direct from a script by Jack Thorne (The Scouting Book for Boys, Wonder).
The Secret Garden follows Mary Lennox, a sickly 10-year-old orphan who is set to live with her uncle after her parents die during a cholera outbreak in India. As she begins to explore her uncle’s estate, Mary hears of a secret walled garden, which she soon discovers has magical properties.
The new movie is described as “a fresh take” on the classic story, and continues the partnership between Harry Potter producer David Heyman’s Heyday Films and StudioCanal, which has recently scored a major critical and commercial hit with Paddington 2.
