Back in December it was announced that David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity) had signed on to write and direct Sony’s long-gestating Masters of the Universe reboot, and now it seems that He-Man and company are finally ready to break out of development hell.
According to Omega Underground, Sony is looking to commence production on the latest big screen take on the classic Mattel property this April, ready for its planned release on December 18th 2019.
Goyer has co-written the script with Lindsey Beer (Barbie, Godzilla vs. Kong), and follows in the footsteps of fellow directors Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and McG (Charlie’s Angels), both of whom have been attached in recent years.
Masters of the Universe is of course based upon the 80s toy line, which spawned a classic animated series from 1983 to 1985, along with further series in 1990 and 2002. Dolph Lundgren also took on the role of He-Man for the cult live-action adaptation in 1987.
