With awards season in full swing, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards, which showcases the best in cinematic achievement from 2017.
Leading the pack is Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, which scored 13 nominations in total, followed by Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with nine and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk with seven.
The three films will contest the Best Picture Oscar alongside Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread and The Post. McDonagh misses out on a Best Director nod however, with del Toro and Nolan nominated alongside Jordan Peele for Get Out, Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird and Paul Thomas Anderson for Phantom Thread.
