According to reports, Comcast might end up derailing Disney’s hopes of securing a Fox takeover.
While Disney finalised its acquisition of 21st Century Fox in December of 2017, the media giants still need to wait for governmental approval before the deal can go through.
According to reports, another company has entered the picture, suggesting that Comcast, the parent company of Universal Pictures and NBC, could charge in at the last and outbid Disney’s $66.1 billion that has been offered for available Fox assets.
The fox entities that are up for grabs include 20th Century Fox film studio, Fox Searchlight, and the FX Network.
Sources have told CNBC that Comcast could consider outbidding Disney if the opportunity occurs. Basically the industry is waiting with bated breath to see if AT&T’s takeover of Time Warner goes through which is being considered by courts at the moment.
The enormity of this takeover would have large ramifications on other business in this sphere with one of the deals impacted being the Disney/Fox acquisition.
CNBC write: “If AT&T is allowed to buy Time Warner, Comcast may try to top Disney’s bid for Fox, according to people familiar with the matter.”
It’s all very interesting and perhaps distressing for those that believed the deal was complete and were looking forward to Fox characters like the X-Men appearing in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
