Titans casts April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl

February 21, 2018 by Ricky Church

Its been a while since Geoff Johns revealed The Doom Patrol would be featured in the live action Titans series for DC’s streaming service, but we now have another piece of casting for the other superhero group. April Bowlby (Drop Dead Diva) has been chosen to play Rita Farr, aka Elasti-Girl, for the series according to EW.

In the comics, Rita was an actress whose star was quickly on the rise until she was exposed to a toxic gas that changed her cell structure. The accident has allowed her to change her shape and size, though she didn’t have control of it at the beginning and was labelled a freak, leaving her Hollywood career in ruins. Dr. Niles Caulder, The Chief, then appeared and offered her a place in the Doom Patrol, a group of other misfits with powers to use their abilities for good.

The original line-up debuted in 1963 and consisted of The Chief, Robotman, Elasti-Girl and Negative Man, and the title has been relaunched as part of Gerard Way’s Young Animal comic book imprint. The Doom Patrol will star in the fifth episode of Titans with Bruno Bichir (Narcos) as The Chief.

From executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, TITANS is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. TITANS is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.

Titans is set to air as part of the upcoming DC streaming service. As yet, there’s no word on a premiere date.
