If rumours are to be believed, Jessica Drew could be heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in Marvel and Sony’s as-yet-untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.
You may recall that back in January That Hashtag Show reported that Marvel and director Jon Watts were looking to cast a European actress as a “femme fatale” character for Homecoming 2. Well, the site has now provided an update on that rumour, stating that the character in question has been described as “a Bond-girl type international agent”.
This description does of course fit Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman, who in the comic books has served as an agent of HYDRA, S.H.I.E.L.D. and S.W.O.R.D.. The character was also a key player in the ‘Secret Invasion’ storyline, which revolved around a Skrull invasion of Earth, and is something that has been rumoured as a possible MCU storyline following the Skrulls’ upcoming debut in Captain Marvel.
At this point, it should probably be noted that it has also been rumoured that Sony planned on utilising Spider-Woman in its non-MCU Spidey spinoff Silver & Black. It’s unlikely that Marvel and Sony would want to have two conflicting versions of the character on screen at the same time – although with Silver & Black said to be on “indefinite” hold, it may not be an issue (if these rumours are true, of course).
