Deadline is reporting that up and coming filmmaker Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) has signed on to direct “an untitled girl gang movie” for Warner Bros. and DC Films, which will be based upon the Birds of Prey comic book series.
Margot Robbie is confirmed to reprise her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn, and she is expected to be joined by the likes of Batgirl, Black Canary and the Huntress. The script has been written by Christina Hodson, who penned the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and also recently signed on to script the DCEU movie Batgirl.
Robbie is set to produce the film with Bryan Unkeless (I, Tonya) and Sue Kroll of Kroll & Co Entertainment. Filming is expected to get underway late this year, or early in 2019.
In addition to Birds of Prey, Robbie is also set to return as Harley in the Gavin O’Connor-directed Suicide Squad 2, while Warner Bros. also has Harley Quinn vs. The Joker and Gotham City Sirens still in development. However, according to Justin Kroll of Variety, Suicide Squad 2 will now be delayed, and won’t shoot this year.
As for SUICIDE SQUAD 2, clearly moving out of 2018 shoot. The move to go with BOP not only had a lot to do with Hodson's script but also the idea of doing with BATGIRL what Marvel did with Black Panther in CIVIL WAR by introducing them into universe before giving them own film

Yan will become the third female filmmaker in the DCEU after Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins and Ava DuVernay, who recently signed on to adapt New Gods.
