After eight movies (with two more incoming, as well as the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff) and a live show, the Fast & Furious franchise is now heading to the small screen, with DreamWorks Animation Television and Netflix developing an animated show based on the animated blockbuster.
The series will follow Tony Toretto, the teenage cousin of Vin Diesel’s Dom, who is recruited along with his friends by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a criminal organisation with ambitions of world domination.
Tim Hedrick (Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) will serve as showrunners, as well as executive producing with the movies’ Vin Diesel, Neil Moritz and Chris Morgan.
“We are excited to extend and expand our successful relationship with Netflix by not only delivering more high-quality DreamWorks programming, but connecting fans of Universal films with fascinating new stories,” said Margie Cohn, president of DreamWorks Animation Television. “Our new home at Universal marks an exciting new chapter for storytelling at our studio, and Fast & Furious is only the beginning.”

As yet, there’s no word when we might expect to see the Fast & Furious animated series, but it won’t arrive before the release of Hobbs and Shaw in July 2019.
