Among the many rumours that’s been circulating about The Batman is that Jake Gyllenhaal has been waiting in the wings to replace Ben Affleck, should the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League star ultimately opt against reprising the role of The Dark Knight for the Matt Reeves-helmed solo movie.
Well, it seems that may not be the case after all, as Gyllenhaal has offered a simple and straightforward denial when asked by CNA Lifestyle (via Batman-News) if he’s going to be the next Batman, responding: “Wow, that’s a very difficult question. The answer to that question is ‘no’.”

Affleck has previously confirmed that he’s yet to make a decision on whether he’ll be returning for The Batman, and reports have suggested that it is unlikely, although he may return for one final appearance in the Flashpoint movie.
It should also be noted that Jason Momoa denied that he’d been cast as Aquaman, telling MTV that “you can punch me in the face [if I’m lying]”. Could Gyllenhaal be offering a similar “denial”? Only time will tell, but hopefully we’ll get official news/clarifications on the status of The Batman soon.
