Luke Cage showrunner says a Heroes for Hire spinoff “is really not off the table”

April 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After bringing the two characters together for The Defenders, there’s been some speculation about whether we might see Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist teaming up for a Heroes for Hire series as part of Netflix’s Marvel universe.

So far, Marvel and the streaming service avoiding doing so, preferring instead to produce second seasons for both character’s respective solo shows. However, according to Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, a Heroes for Hire spinoff remains very much a possibility.

“It’s something that’s in the air”, Coker tells Pilot TV. “Internally at Marvel Television, everybody knows there’s a part of that combination that is inevitable, particularly when you watch them together in the way that we did it. If feels right. It feels good. It feels like, ‘I want to see more of this combination. Heroes for Hire is really not off the table.'”

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Luke Cage season 2 is set to arrive on Netflix on June 22nd and features a cast that includes Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), Theo Rossi (Shades), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Thomas Q. Jones (Comanche), Gabrielle Dennis (Tilda Johnson), Mustafa Shakir (John McIver/Bushmaster), Reg E. Cathey (James Lucas) and Anabella Sciorra (Rosalie Carbone).
