Shawn Levy talks Stranger Things future, may extend to five seasons

April 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

As we’ve heard previously from creators The Duffer Brothers, Netflix’s hit supernatural drama series Stranger Things is being eyed for a four season run, meaning we have two more trips back in time to Hawkins, Indiana to look forward to.

However, speaking to Collider ahead of production on season three beginning this coming week, executive producer Shawn Levy has been chatting about the future, suggesting that a fifth season could well be on the cards, although no decisions have been made as yet.

“Season Four is definitely happening,” said Levy. “There’s very much the possibility of a season beyond that one, that’s currently undecided. And what I would just say is part of the chaos and fun of this particular show is that while the Duffers and the writer’s room and we producers outline the entire season, the Duffers really use the writing process to revisit, reassess and question all of their prior assumption. So even though we always start off with a good sense of the major arcs of the season. We’re always ready for shifts and surprises because if the Duffers stumble into a different or surprising inspiration while they rewrite the script, we’re going to follow that inspiration and throw out some ideas in order to embrace some new ones that are more exciting. And I have no doubt that Season 3 will be no exception.”

The third season of Stranger Things will see the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobbie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery and Priah Ferguson, while new additions include Maya Hawke, Cary Elwes and Jake Busey.
