Hulu developing The House of the Spirits TV series

May 28, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Streaming service Hulu is teaming with FilmNation Entertainment for a TV adaptation of Isabel Allende’s critically-acclaimed novel The House of the Spirits, with the search currently underway for a writer and director.

Published in 1982, The House of the Spirits tells the triumphs and tragedies of three generations of the Trueba family. The book was an enormous success, selling over 70 million copies worldwide, as well as being adapted for the big screen in 1993 with a cast that included Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Winona Ryder, Glenn Close and Antonio Banderas.

Allende is on board to executive produce the series, which joins a growing selection of literary adaptations at Hulu, which includes The Handmaid’s Tale, The Looming Tower and the upcoming Little Fires Everywhere and Castle Rock.
