In January, Marvel Studios tapped Jac Schaeffer (The Shower) to write a screenplay for a Black Widow solo movie, which we’ve since heard would be an Iron Man 2 prequel focussing on the origin of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff.
Earlier this week, a report surfaced stating that Marvel has been meeting with several female filmmakers including Deniz Gamze Erguven (Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), and according to Variety’s Justin Kroll that’s just the tip of the iceberg as over 65 filmmakers have taken meetings about the project.
Fun fact: More then 65 directors have met for the BLACK WIDOW job. Marvel being extremely thorough on this one

As yet, there’s been no official word from Marvel as to whether the project is being considered as part of its Phase Four slate, which isn’t getting revealed until next summer. However, if these reports are true and Marvel is devoting so much time to a director search, it would seem very likely that the Black Widow movie is being viewed as a priority for the next wave of movies.
