Back in August of last year it was reported that Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) has signed on to develop an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff movie, which will see Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the venerable Jedi Master.
Well, although the project is yet to be officially announced by Lucasfilm, FanthaTracks is reporting that pre-production on the Anthology movie is now in full swing at Pinewood Studios, with various concept artists, prop modellers and storyboard artists said to be hard at work on the film.
According to the site, contracts have been extended to a number of regular Star Wars crew members, who would join the production immediately following their work on Star Wars: Episode IX, which begins filming this summer. It’s said that the plan is to go into production once Episode IX has wrapped, with the main shoot beginning in April 2019 ahead of a December 2020 release date.

While we don’t have any official confirmation on the above, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Lucasfilm is pushing ahead with Kenobi: A Star Wars Story in 2019, so all signs are pointing to this being the first post-Episode IX release from Disney and Lucasfilm.
