Avengers 4 was reportedly called Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet before the title leaked

June 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite the fact that Avengers: Infinity War has been and gone, and the next instalment is just eleven months away from release, Marvel Studios continues to leave us in suspense when it comes to the title for Avengers 4.

Last year, Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana seemingly let slip that the untitled sequel would be going by the title Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, although the “reveal” was quickly debunked by Guardians director James Gunn, who states that Saldana had simply misspoke.

Well, if MCU Cosmic is to be believed, Avengers 4 was indeed going by the title Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet during production, but Marvel has opted to go in a different direction following the leak.

Given that plot rumours suggest the sequel will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes looking to assemble their own gauntlet in order to undo Thanos’ actions at the end of Infinity War, Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet does seem to make perfect sense as the title for Avengers 4, but it appears that is no longer the case.

As Marvel’s Kevin Feige has previously revealed, he feels that the decision to withhold the title has backfired, stating that: “It’s gotten entirely out of hand. And now will have no chance to living up to any expectations of what it’s gonna be. And it sort of backfired, if I’m honest with you, because the notion was to not talk about it so the focus was to be on [Infinity War].”
