Avengers: Infinity War certainly included a number of big shocks as Thanos – and Marvel – dispatched a number of fan favourite characters before the climactic ‘snap’, in which the Mad Titan achieved his goal of assembling the six Infinity Stones and used them to eliminate half of all life in the universe.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Thor star Chris Hemsworth has now told Esquire that Marvel and the Russo brothers have even bigger shocks in store for us in next year’s follow-up Avengers 4.
“If you were shocked by [Infinity War], I think the second one is even more shocking, for other reasons entirely,” said Hemsworth. “That’s what kind of blew me away the first time I read both scripts, is how they managed to orchestrate so many different characters but give them each their own separate shot and moments, and have it be elevated and feel fresh and unique – not just like a messy, thrown-together assembly of these guys.”
While it would seem safe to assume that all of the characters who fell at the end of Infinity War will make their return in Avengers 4, it also appears highly likely that we’ll be saying a definite farewell to at least one of the original Avengers in the next movie as Marvel shakes up the status quo of the MCU going in to Phase Four.
