Having started its international roll out earlier this month, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom finally made its way to North America this weekend, with the latest instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise enjoying a domestic opening haul of $150 million.
This number is down from the $204.6 million haul of its 2015 predecessor, but its certainly a strong debut, particularly as it faced competition from Disney-Pixar’s Incredibles 2, which grossed $80 million in its second weekend.
The J.A. Bayona-helmed Fallen Kingdom is also enjoying huge success in the international markets, where it has already earned $561.5 million, for a global total of $711.5 million and counting.
It has already surpassed Jurassic Park III ($368.8 million) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park ($618.6 million) and at this rate, it seems likely that the film will go on to better the original Jurassic Park ($983.8) to become the second film in the series to reach $1 billion after Jurassic World ($1.672 billion).
